* The Nat’l. Arbor Day Foundation is accepting votes for the official
national tree through April 1. Candidates include bald cypress,
California redwood, giant sequoia, tulip tree and several species of
cottonwoods, dogwoods, elms, hemlocks, hickories, hollies, magnolias,
maples, oaks, palms, palo verdes and redbuds. Write-in selections will
also be accepted. Vote online or via mail on a 3-by-5-inch card. The
winner will be announced April 27. National Tree, The National Arbor
