Re: Eremurus
Hi Claire,
I've grown E. robustus and the Shelford hybrids. Robustus is a sight to
behold at 9' with the blossoms opening in sequence working their way up the
stalk. Somehow I can't imagine any of the species being bad!
My soil is heavy, but a slope provides drainage. In recent years my
trees have grown enough that total full sun is available only in midsummer,
and the Eremerus has definitely declined. This year I'll have to get up the
courage to lift and try to separate them to replant in a sunnier spot.
An acquaintance grows a large group of these in Spokane Washington which
looks to be around Zone 5b. Total sun, flat sandy soil.
Good Luck!
Marian
