Given that anyone but the unemployed, retired, or independently wealthy are at work during those operating hours, you've already sent the message that you don't want our business.  We do just fine, though, without having to resort to "petunias and Martha Washingtons."  There are still plenty of businesses, including mail-order, who want our money.
 
As for garden snobs, er, I mean, "serious gardeners," they should live and be well.  With that kind of attitude, perennial gardening will go back to being the domain of a small, exclusionary few (which, I realize, is what some would prefer).
