Some plants are known as "gross feeders". It would seem that those that put
on a lot of annual growth and this plant does, need more fertilizer. It is
my custom to throw around 5-10-5 every spring before the snow is completely
gone. This is especially valuable on shrubbery. Now just why this is is
complicated and subject to all kinds of arguments but I always do it with
success.
Try more fertilizer and if not in some shade in the afternoon, water it more.
One day when it has a mature root system you will be writing messages on how
to keep it under control. So many times this has happened to me.
