Hello Chris,
When I came home from the accountants and completing tax prep, I took a
walk in the garden and had a good look around. In my shirt sleeves now
less... 76 here this afternoon....
I have one blossom completely open on a Hellebore niger, several just
beginning to open. I also see where one of the H. torquatus is in almost
full bloom with numerous blossoms open... the ones back up on the hill in
less sun remain mostly under leaf litter....
Helleborus foetidus in contrasting greens is in plump buds all through
the garden... will be open just in them for this weekend's return to
winter... but they will more than likely be ok.....
Not the woodies group, but have to mention my Chinese Witch-hazel,
absolutely stunning in color and fragrance. Tree is completely covered in
golden-orange spider-shaped blossoms...... each emitting a fragrance that is
almost overwhelming to the nose.
Hope to get out there tomorrow and lay cedar limbs on the hellebores as
snow is forecast for this coming Friday.... snow would be ok... it is the
cold temps of only 20 for a height that will brown the blooms and leaf
tips.....
