Good Morning all,
Bill Lee and I were at a daffodil auction one year where a breeder was
offering a fine, new introduction that was not going to be available in
commerce for at least 3 years. The photo showed smooth golden petals and
an orange-red cup that appeared to have that special something.
One young man was just bowled over by the picture and determined that he
had to have that bulb. He was bidding against a couple of older ladies
who could afford to bid much higher than he could. The bidding rose,
higher and higher. No dithering. Faster and faster. Finally, the
young man could stand it no longer. He grabbed his wallet out of his
pocket, threw it at the auctioneer's feet and declared, 'Take it! Just
take it all !'.
The crowd started laughing hysterically and the breeder declared that the
young man was 'Nuts', but he won the bulb.
