Re: Organic Gardening Magazine

Yes, Marilyn, I remember when this happened and agree with you about
Mike McGrath - had forgotten his name. Robert Rodale was not quite
as rabid as his dad, J.I. Rodale, who was the "voice" when I first
subscribed to OG, but he kept the original vision and intent. Before
Robert died, one of my fond dreams had been to visit OG's PA farm,
but it never happened and now I wouldn't want to. Also remember old
National Gardening - used to get it way back when it was in newsprint
and it did not improve with changes, either. Also used to get and
enjoy Harrowsmith...Lordy but that's a long time ago!

Now, I get Fine Gardening, Horticulture, The American Horticulturist
and RHS The Garden and that's about all I can wade through. Fine
Gardening and Horticulture go up and down in quality. AHS mag has
improved over the years; still a bit thin on the ground in many areas
but IMO The Garden is hard to beat...always something in depth of
great interest...plants are plants whether grown in the UK or the
US... although even they are changing their modus operendi to please
more of the masses and I am not sure it is a "good thing"; I was
quite happy with the way they were, myself. Am trying out a
subscription to The Plantsman...we shall see; it's very expensive and
only quarterly and possibly a bit too much 'in depth'...well, so far
what it's been in depth about has not been of great interest to me:-)
If they hit one of the genera that pulls my chain; might change my
tune;-)
