I had tried something similar to the pick ax called Mutt.It has a wood
handle and a wider blade than the pix ax. I find it very useful in other
places for getting the rocks out and even for edging  borders but it was
hardly penetrating the soil I have under these trees. Will try digging fork
next. Is the "Sears quality" good enough or do I have to splurge on one of
those really expensive English imports ?  Since nothing is growing outside
(other than the snow piles - took me 4 hours yesterday to undig) maybe we
can talk a little about our favorite companies, special hand tools etc.?
