How about a pick ax (as a child called them "Pig ax," guess I heard the word
wrong!)
I have a hard maple in the front yard and that poor tree has suffered many
traumas, but that's anther story, every year or two I get 15 yards of
good-black humus rich "dirt" delivered on the other side of the driveway.
About 45-50 feet away from the maple tree, and that maple likes to move its
root system into my dirt pile. I mean a lot of small fine roots, after a
month I do not have to wory about my dirt washing away in a large rain
storm, its held together by root poor.
