Re: OT (woody plant) Lonicera "Golden Box"

Jean, I've been growing L. nitida 'Baggeson's Gold' for about 4 years
now (cuttings from Debbie Teachout-Teason - Thanks Debbie!!). I'm in
colder z 7 than you are. Mine are planted on the west side of my
house where the north wind comes past in winter (tho' there are
intervening trees and shrubs - it's not a clean sweep of wind) and
I've had very little tip die back, so I don't think you need to worry
too much about a super protected location, except that if you are
subject to salt-laden winds...dunno how they react to that.

You will get more gold color in sun; more chartreuse in shade.
Lovely plant. I also acquired the plain green form; it's in my
woodland garden and seems to be quite happy. Last season, I glommed
onto a variegated form, 'Lemon Beauty', at Plant Delights - tiny
plant, but VERY neat - can't wait for it to get larger!

I've discovered they have quite a wild natural form. If you want
tidy round balls, you need to prune.
