If those plants are of European origin, probably Dutch, the roots have been 
washed clean of any soil.  The surrounding medium will be something sterile.  
Heeling in in a protected frame or semi-shady area would be a good way to 
start and avoid a lot of losses.  Those plants have suffered one shock before 
you acquired them.
