Hi Lil,
I went to South Carolina last spring in late March and was disappointed
by some of the gardens. However, I think it depends on what you're
looking for.
I wanted well-labeled plant collections, so the Riverbanks Zoo and
Botanical Garden[1] were perfect for me. They had huge collections
of plants (all well-labeled) covering the full range of plant material.
And, being a zoo, they had tigers[2] and flamingos[3] too!
We also went to Magnolia Plantation[4], but it was kind of boring.
Lots of plants all in a row with no labels. Azaleas are nice, but
they grow old fast.
The other site that we went to was Middleton Place[5]. It's more like
an unlabeled arboretum, but they had some interesting plants and it
was a pleasant stroll. And you have to see the Middleton Oak[6]!
I hope this hopes at least a little. :)
Chris
