Hello Merri,
You should not have to wait long... most viburnums are pretty fast
growing shrubs. Depends upon size when you purchase, but we wait about two
to three years and then the clematis goes in so it does not overwhelm the
shrub.
I have a whole section of clematis I have grown from seed that needs to
have a home someplace in the garden. Some are not up to 3 gallon size.
Perhaps this coming spring I will get most into their permanent homes.
