Donna: We didn't have near that sorta freeze but we did dip to the freezing
mark at 11:30 last night and remained at (or below) freezing until just
moments ago. I think our low was 28.
Being in zone 9 (some books say 8) I grow a good number of plants that are
tropical and subtropical right in the garden----lucky for me that this is our
first damaging freeze because so many of the plant were still growing and in
bloom until 2 nights ago. These seemed to act as insulation for the rest of
the garden. I have plants that are side by side, literally inches apart, and
one is burned and the other is not---very strange. I have a 5 foot plus
Datura that was untouched by the freezing temps but the Clerodendrum
minihause that is right next to it is completely black from freeze burn.
I wish we would have repeat temps like this for the next week - sure would
help the garden do to sleep and protect me from freakish spring time losses.
