The other Donna
I really don't know what the average low temp is for my area. The weather these days is so iffy.
I can remember a time when people were wearing shorts during the Christmas holidays. Normally I would be concerned that my shrubs and plants would burst into bloom and then we would have a night when a artic blast would come our way and kill everything. One year most of my daffodils were in bloom and freezing temps were predicted and I picked a large bouquet and then summoned my neighbors to take what they wanted.. The next morning, what was left was a sad sight.
As a rule our very cold winter doesn't start until about Feb. and continues into March, and in the past I usually watched for the temps to drop below the freezing mark Lots of my plants would never go dormant.
Like I said, this has been a very unusual year weather wise.
After reading Claire's post I believe I can tolerate our wacky weather and loosing a few plants. I really don't feel sorry for me. I don't believe I would enjoy dealing with all that snow. I love to watch it snow and it is so beautiful, but I want it to stay a few min and then go away. I'm looking forward to spring and discovering what, if anything I have lost, and I'm sure I've lost some things. We've had some pretty low temps and they have stayed with us for several day at a time.
Does anyone remember me making the statement, "I'm not gonna buy anything else" famous last words. Today I purchased 7 Ilex Cornuta "Burfordii Nana" Dwarf Burford Holly....I just couldn't resist, and I don't have a clue where I'm gonna put them. They are the cutest things got little red berries.
Next month is the month I have to go out in the woods and get replacements for my Oak Leaf Hydrangeas.
Spring is just around the corner. :-) ;-)

You should be upset... for us it is normal and the type of plants I have
can take this weather. I push the limit yearly and do loose some. I
would worry about your plants, what is the low for zone 7 tolerance? You
could have a serious plant loss!

I feel ashamed for complaining about our weather, when I read your
about yours. Somehow I'm glad I live in NE Mississippi
