I agree with you. It would be nice to have some snow occasionally, if
for no other reason "just to watch it fall" then, I would want it to
go away. <<<

That's me----I don't want to keep the snow around just experience it for a
day or so. In Houston the city would completely shut down especially not
being equipped to handle such weather conditions.

As far as the winter in the Gulf South----can't ever predict it and can't
ever guarantee the safty of your plants. Last year we had a nice, cold
January and kept the garden asleep followed by an extrememly warm February.
Everything came out of dormancy, I even had Canna's in bud. March 3rd
brought a hard freeze that was unexpected and took everything back down.
Luckily this late freeze (in the Gulf South this is late....anything after
March 1) spared my garden of losses. I focused my garden efforts to
container during the month of February and let the garden debris stay in
place---very hard thing to do when the temps are 65-70 in February.

If we have another warming trend this year I will probably do the
same---replace or ammend the soil in my containers - create combo pots for
the season and plant seeds. Reports have indicated that the El Nino will
bring a cool, wet spring to the Gulf South....this report is troubling for
those of us who garden in this area. We are more likely to have loses during
cool, wet springs that 20 degree weather in January---especially if dormancy
has been broken.

We just have to wait and see---this morning we are already at 59
degrees....sure wish it was just a little colder and stay that way throughout
this month. Not freezing, just cold.
