RE: Juanulloa aurantica

Hi Don,
What a beautiful plant! I see it is listed (picture on rareflora.com) as a
4' shrub. How big is yours? I know nothing about it, but am very
interested. I assume you have a warm place (a light garden, glass house,
atrium) to grow this? Yours looks so healthy. I wonder if Logees or Glass
House would share some information with you? It wouldn't hurt to ask.
We are not huddled by the fire here (it has been 50-60F for a couple of
weeks now) but it is one of those dark, gray rainy days that makes me want
to huddle inside to keep dry. I only go out to set a good example for my
dogs :) and to admire the Hellebores and Daffs. I worry that we will still
get some very cold weather in February that kills everything back to the
ground. A lot of good it does to worry about it! The snow pack on the
mountain is melting, but the reservoirs (next summer's water for home and
garden) are full.
I have 2 small shrubs from "down under" that have been in bloom all winter.
One is Anisodontea 'Tara's Pink' (2 1/2 x 3') and the other Correa 'Mission
Bells' (2x2') - both in containers on the deck. They would be very nice
specimens for an atrium or glasshouse in cold climates. They seem to bloom
no matter what.

Since many of us are either knee-deep in snow or huddled by the
radiators, I'll pose a question regarding one of "tropical
perennials" currently blooming for me.

Juanulloa aurantica has been offered by Logee's, so perhaps someone
on the list may also have tried it. Does anyone know if it sets
seed? I've taken a camels hair brush and, um, done the deed, so to
speak, but the corolla is so narrow, I can't really see what's
happening down there. Anyone else grow this? See photo at:

Thanks, and keep warm everyone.
