Re: Delphiniums in the heat

I had Pacific Giants delphniums for about four years before they started
to decline and die. I had them along the south-facing garage wall under
the eaves where they kept well-drained, and they had very late afternoon
shade. Our temps. are down to -15 F. in winter up to 90+ F. summer days,
some with 70-80% humidity. I'm not sure how long-lived delphiniums are
supposed to be. I didn't replace them primarily because I got tired of
staking them, but lately I've been eying the catalog pictures showing
shorter varieties - Pacific Fountains? Has anyone experience with
these? Is it true - no staking? I've also read that delphiniums are big
feeders -- and I may have fallen down here.
