The East coast has some wonderful nurseries, and many ship across the
country on a regular basis. If a nursery takes proper precautions there
should be no problem. In fact, a great deal of tree nursery stock in the
East comes from the Pacific Northwest. Most perennials ship well, and
there are specialty nurseries that ship with little problems to Europe
and elsewhere. When a nursery does not properly handle the plants, it
does not matter how close the nursery is. Van Bourgondian is only one
hour from me, and I have had problems.
