Teresa, I live in zn7 and grow this plant. It is a tender perennial here.
Often overwintering. It just depends on how cold our ground temp gets. Most
years it it fine. I have planted new plants as soon as the last frost date
and the grow to about 4 ft in a season. I probably delay bloom time because
I pinch several times to get a bushier plant. The kind without any white in
it's bloom is a bit hardier. This plant blooms in September. It is a magnet
for butterflies and people stop their cars to ask me what it is. It is
lovely with Mexican heather or the shorter pink/purple cosmos. I have seen
it at Callaway Gardens used as a container plant. I also like to use lantana
at it's knees. It is one of my favorite perennials. It overwinters well in a
sunny window. It will grow roots just fine from cuttings in water or easily
root in a soil mixture.
