Re: deer and hair

I keep hearing people talk about using hair, human or animal, in their
gardens to repel animals. That may be all well and good for that purpose,
but my daughter grooms dogs at my house and she puts the hair in the
garden. At first I thought this was great, but then one day when I was
digging up some daylilies to divide and replant, I found that the hair was
strangling the roots and green shoots. The hair doesn't break down and the
plants try to squeeze through it. It was very hard to get all that hair
untangled from the plants. It was like sea life getting those soda can
holders around their neck and ending up dead. I recommend that if you want
to use hair in your garden, you cut it up into little pieces.

My mother-in-law, who is a hairdresser, says she gives away cut hair all
the
time to people interested in repelling deer.
Find a hairdresser or barber who won't think you're nuts and ask them.
It's
cheap and cuts down on their amounts of garbage (lets all recycle and
reuse!)
