Re: Happy combinations -Reply

Let's see about those clarifications...

1. Phlox 'David' is white, excellent mildew resistance in my humid zone 6,
grows roughly 2.5' tall with a bushy habit. I have it in full sun and in
part shade. Where it is in part shade, I find I have to stake it because
it grows a little larger and the stems cannot support those huge flower
heads.

2. The liatris 'Kolbold' is a dwarf (as far as liatris goes) lavender. It
isn't quite the shade of the purple coneflower (the old dependable variety,
not the newer hybrids which to me are more reddish like 'Magnus'), but when
you pair the two with a skirt of the pink coreopsis, it's quite the vision
of pink/lavender (depends on your eyes) and flower forms. I suppose you
could mix the white liatris and white coneflower in...it's a thought for
another season.

I like using pastel colors with different flower forms. When using the
same species of plants, I then go for the bold color combinations when
available or I at least use the same flower form, i.e. a mixing of daisies
in different colors, using the asiatic lillies in color combinations that
the garden color "experts" say never to use (but the fashion industry loves
putting together -- go figure).
