I've been growing Coreopsis verticillata 'rosea' for around 4
years now. I think it is one of the nicest and most
useful perennials around. It is low-growing and the threadleaf
foliage is lovely even in the short time this plant isn't
blooming. Deadheading promotes a longer bloom time. One of the
other characteristics that makes this plant so endearing is it
spreads like crazy but never interferes with anything else; it
simply goes around them.

I grow it with several varieties of liatris, C. 'moonbeam',
violets, Potentilla Verna Nana and P. Miss Willmott in a purple,
pink and yellow area of the garden. The C. 'rosea' looks
incredibly nice when a few delicate stems poke up through the
dense Potentillas.

Coreopsis Rosea 'American Dream' is a relatively new Dutch
improved strain of C. 'rosea'. It is somewhat deeper pink and
the yellow is a bit brighter. Its foliage is a deeper green and
is denser than the more open original rosea.

C. 'rosea' doesn't actually *like* moist areas. What it does is
tolerate moister areas than most of the other Coreopsis
varieties, which prefer very well-drained soil on the dry side.
They both like part sun.

For those of you that like Coreopsis and have a fondness for hot
colors, there is a low-growing Coreopsis called Baby Sun that is
really nice. It is of medium height and is densely covered with
blooms all summer. The flowers are bright yellow and have a
small but bold dark red eye.
