Hi Lorraine,
Privets are pretty tough, so you shouldn't have any problems with
them unless shipping is REALLY bad.
They're also pretty quick-growing, so short plants won't matter. I'm
hoping that you're looking for a short shearable hedge -- if they're
going to be tall, go with something prettier like a Meyer lilac
or viburnums!
