Many plants fade in bright (western/southern sun). Either a very pale
colour or one that won't fade easily in bright sun or is SO bright that
bright sun only knocks it back a bit -- will work in this situation. I
don't know that the standard large-flowered Clematis will serve you well
in this situation, though I have read NM fades "easily" and "Jackmanii"
is more vigourous.
