On this subject of heaters, I've always used a heating pad for
germinating tomato seeds with great results. I put it on low, wrap it in
a towel and put the flat of seeds on it. I can't see any difference
between this and an official seed warmer or waterbed heater besides the
thermostat. Apparently the low setting is perfect for the nightshade
family as I have been doing this for about 8 years now. Advantage: you
don't have to buy anything new since most households already have one.
Disadvantage: don't pull out your back during germination season! :-)
