I have to tell a tale on my (dumb) self.
Two years ago I bought some Angel's Trumpets (Datura) seeds, started
them, and they grew well, planted two in a garden bed. The flowers were
impressive and eventually formed their interesting bur-like fruits. I
knew they were poisonous, but I picked a seed pod, and opened it to just
look at the seeds, which had been fairly pricey as I remember. Later
that evening, glancing at myself in the mirror, I saw that my left pupil
was dialated to the max--thought I was having a stroke, went to the
emergency room where they ran tests. Nothing wrong. The opthamologist
phoned the next day and asked if I had handled any unusual plant
material, and of course, I knew then what I had done--must have gotten a
bit in my eye. Atropine in action. The effect went away in 24 hrs.
I learned a lesson about washing hands!
