This really has turned into an interesting subject. We are amazed at the
differences across the country as to what mushroom compost really is.
Here we consider mushroom compost to be the by-product of mushroom
growing. The spent soil , so to speak, of mushrooms. It is made up of the
composted remains of straw, top soil, chicken scat ( why ours is high in
nitrogen ) and sometimes hay. We have never considered it an "organic"
growing medium and in fact refrain from using it on edible products. Just
shows one you cannot take things for granted.
