This is ONE kind of electric shredder and I have one and used to use it--great
for leaves but not for branches of any size. And changing the string was a
nuisance. Then there are small electric shredders that have a bulk hopper and
a branch hopper and uses blades and hammers just like the big gas models. I
use a gas one myself, but I imagine the electric ones are just less powerful.
I imagine doing large quantities of leaves in these would take a very long
time, but small diameter branches might work OK. But get a big gas shredder
if you have much volume. It is an extremely essential tool for me. Mine is a
3 horsepower and cost about $500-600 range. It is very satisfying to feed
sticks and branches into it.
