Re: Electric shredders

My advice: Consider the logistics of owning a shredder before you buy.

We have a gas shredder we are very happy with. We only use it once or twice
a year. The big factor isn't starting it -- that isn't hard to do (or the
fact that my husband turned it on this fall with the leaf collection bag
stored inside, which was (surprise) thoroughly chewed up) -- but rather that
it weighs so much that it is very very hard to move around. We decided to
buy, rather than rent, the shredder only because we couldn't see how we
could get the shredder in and out of the truck by ourselves (oh, and yes, we
don't have a truck either, so transportation would have been a problem). We
have now bought an ugly plastic "shed" to put the shredder in which we will
put nearer to our yard, so we don't have to drag it the long distance from
our garage (where it formerly lived).

What sort of primal urges does starting it satisfy? Can a woman start it?
Margaret, who's looking around at all of the gas-powered yard and garden
tools, wondering.
