With the exception of the cultivar "Issai", hardy kiwi must have both sexes
present and blooming at the same time to generate fruit.   For example, a
male of A. arguta may pollenate the female of A. kolomitka, but they tend
to bloom at different times.

In the case of the hardy passion flower (I'm assuming that you are talking
about P. incarnata here), they are not self-fruitful and must have another
clone available for fertilization.
