Re: price and quality/Best deal??

Sue, I have found better quality at garden centers but much less variety!
However, I ordered from the glitzy companies in the past and now, through
the wonders of the net, know about those little companies out there who
spend less time making fancy catalogs and more on fancy plants. :)
I plan to get a little bit from everyone. This includes:
--mail order seeds for some exotic easy-to-grow annuals & artichokes
--10 for a buck Menards seeds for basics like cosmos & some veggies
--tons of $3 bare-root Walmart HT roses for what I think of as my annual
roses (they usually come back though-- plant as soon as the ground thaws)
--Hardy, different roses from mail order (Roseraie at Bayfields of Maine,
going to try them) for permanent structures in the back garden
--Nursery perennials for those varieties on my want lists that are
available locally
--Cheapo annuals for instant color from Walmart or the grocery stores
--Some perennials from mail order that I have seen others on my mailing
lists rave about that are harder to find
--Cuttings from every friend who gardens in MN or elsewhere who's willing
to swap!
Basically, it comes down to what your purposes are. Also, companies vary
so much.
Alicia, zone 4 MN
