Here I am stuck in Can zn 5....down to 25-30 below. What am I doing for
winter interest"
...first year - I planted lots of RedOsier/Siberian dogwood ....nice
...second year - Yellowtwig ..... very nice....
..third year - lots of Vinca/periwinkle/myrtle.....very, very nice.
...fourth year - blue spruce and staghorn sumac....best yet
All of these were lovely against the snow, but didn't quite cure the
blahs. But have no fear! I solved the problem this year.
Beginning last October I wrote to the departments of tourism in Florida,
California, Alabama and Texas and asked for a special mailing.
They sent them to me.
You should see my back yard this year..... with 74 beach posters stapled
to the birch trees! Talk about winter interest! Even the chickadees are
wearing sunglasses!
