Many folks will say that taking anything from property not your own
(even public property) is theft, and I suppose I can't argue that it
isn't. Of course, so is that pencil or paperclip you brought home
from the office and any one of a hundred different things I could
name. Do any of you ever log into the Internet for non-business
purposes from work - even just to read your e-mail. Oops! Theft of
service!
I don't want to start an argument about situational ethics, but such
collecting can and does occur. In my own garden, I probably wouldn't
keep any prized plant (particularly with valuable seed) on my front
steps (our paperboy has a bad aim). Anything anyone can reach from
the sidewalk I figure is fair game (tho I'd appreciate it they'd ask
first). For any lapses in my own judgment, I beg forgiveness. Mea
culpa.
