coreopsis mahogany and rosea

Hi all-
I just got 2 coreopsis mahogany (love them!) and they're described as
tender perennials. Anyone have experience with just how tender they
are? I'm zone 6/7. What do I do to give them the best shot at making
it through the winter?
Re: C. rosea, is it as invasive as described? I read recently to
consider it a ground cover.

TIA
Barb (southeastern PA, where having had 3 out-of-town vacations already
I'm ready to stay home and garden! Just starting to put pots
together...how nice everything is on sale!)
