Re: Lysimachia 'Alexander' and Lythrum

Chris,

I wondered about your comments regarding the lysimachia 'Alexander' and
other lythrum. Since I have several varieties of lysimachias and lythrums,
mine have pretty much behaved themselves. No rampant wanderings in the
garden. The only one that tends to spread more than the others is the
gooseneck lysimachia clethoroides. I just love this plant! It actually
looks like a flock of geese sat down in the garden and they are all looking
the same way.

Perhaps this is all due to the fact that I will rarely provide supplemental
water. 'Alexander' is only very slightly larger than when I originally
planted it last year, but it is healthy. I love the coloration of the
leaves, but I do feel like the flowers are distracting. For this same
reason, I grow the phlox 'Nora Leigh', but I cut off those ugly pale pink
blooms. To me it distracts from the leaves and it is a devil trying to
match it with anything in the garden because it such an odd color for the
variegation.

I just love to hear how plants will behave so differently in other areas of
the country and in other gardens.
