Re: trailing in pots/ Hosta

hello Lil,
I see where someone else has sent a long list of nice hosta. There certainly
is no shortage of good hosta in any size you choose. I am a big fan of the minis.
Some that I grow here in pots and the open garden are Allan P. McConnell. narrow
leaf with white edge, purple flowers.
Chartreuse Wiggles, with just that is leaves.. color and form.
Feather Boa, with gold foliage and good grower.
Gaijin, tiny mound of green and gold.
Sashu Jima, is dark green and ruffled.
Stillito, is one of the best with very narrow leaves green and white, ruffled.
We also grow the large hosta in display pots around here and mix them with
annuals, bulbs. For instance, one large terracotta pot has a large green and white
hosta, black sweetpotato vine trailing from the pot, Oriental lilies above that
and purple trailing verbena down another side.
Hosta leaves also make great cut flowers. A friend had photographers from a
magazine coming out last week to do their house. Cut them an arrangement of our
largest hosta leaves, ferns, hosta blooms, variegated Solomon's seal stems,
foliage from black Cimicifuga.
