Think location may, indeed, be a real factor here. My 'Autumn Joy'
are forming flower buds now.....
Bambi prunes these plants for me much earlier in the season and,
then, periodically, throughout the season :-(
Cutting it back early on would retard flowering and might encourage
it to stand up straight and not flop, esp. if it is not in full sun.
But, you can grow this sedum forever and never prune it back, too...
