Re: yellow and blue

Mary --
I'm so glad you have found suitable companions for your lilies! Are you
going to use the Veronica and Delphiniums, or just the Veronica?

Yes, in my experience the Connecticut Yankee series of Delphiniums are heat
tolerant and do well in the Midwest. I just didn't mention them to you
before because you were looking for tall plants and they are only about 2'
tall. I think they would look great with Hemerocallis 'Happy Returns' and I
just might try that myself.

My D. x. b. 'Bellamosum' are having a particularly good year. They are about
5' tall with a dozen or so single flower spikes filing up the top 3' of each
plant. The blooms seem to be lasting forever. Such a joy to behold!
Coincidentally enough, they are overlooking a huge Rudbeckia 'Indian Summer'
that I swear I did not plant. It must have been a gift from the birds. I
must say sometimes those birds are better designers than I am! --Janis
