Lynn,
I have never had 'Sunny Border Blue' look good for more than one week. It
needs a lot of water prior to blooming. This was a much promoted plant of
the year somewhere, sometime.
Moonbeam, while ubiquitous, will survive and bloom with little water.
Moonbeam is also a very long bloomer, sometimes for two months or more.
Veronica incana is a good companion for Moonbeam needing a dry soil to
thrive. If V. incana is planted in a bed that is watered it will need a
pebble mulch to prevent rotting of the grey felty foliage.
If you like a blue accent, grow a big pot of Lobelia 'Crystal Palace'
(annual) and place the pot whereever you need the accent in the garden. You
can move around the pot or heighten it with an upturned pot. A little deceit
can go a long way in the border.
