Mine is on the northeast corner of the house and is further shaded by being
just north of some 5-foot azaleas. It only gets filtered morning sun, if
that. So, I don't think you have it in too much shade. Keep saying that
mantra. Mine didn't grow much the first year or two, either. Now it is huge
and thriving. Here in zone 6 it usually blooms from February through April
or May, If I remember correctly. The long-lasting blooms this year are due, I
suspect, to all of the rain we have been getting. It is in a bed of highly
organic soil. Give yours lots of compost and be patient. --Janis
