RE: Mystery ground cover

I have 3 of the L.nummularia 'Aurea'--golden creeping jenny is its name
around here. They are in the shady area of my garden...the ones that get
the most sun are bigger and are growing better/the one in the most shade is
alot smaller. They were all planted at the same time. They probably do not
get enough water here, either, from what I'll learned on this list. I've
heard that you can put jenny amongst the rocks in a pond waterfall and that
they will grow there without soil. Anyone tried that? We have had
virtually no real rain to speak of--just a drop or two here and there--since
spring and all the ground is so dry I don't know how anything is growing. I
water and water, but I'll never be able to water to that deepest level where
they need it for reserve.
Speaking of watering, what do most of you do? Hand watering or sprinkler
watering? I do both to various plantings at various times, but I am never
sure if they are getting what they need. All are looking pretty good right
now, but some plants just wilt by the end of the day, like my hydrangeas and
some plants newly planted this spring, acanthus for instance.
