Have you considered any of the ground cover Lysimachia?
Stumbled across these as they are being sold as annual accent plants.
They make wonderful accents in hanging baskets, pots or window boxes. I have
one called Golden Moneywort. (L. nummularia 'Aurea') which really hugs the
ground. This year I started the variegated form that has yellow flowers, L.
'Golden Splash.' From re-reading the tags, the Moneywort may take more shade
but you can't totally trust those little tags.
I hope someone else comments on their experience on these 2 plants. Mine get
very little sun, either very early morning or late evening for a short time.
Both are in clay soil altho possibly not as poor as yours and is quite dry
normally.
BTW, Creeping Charlie looks good in hanging baskets.
So well they now sell a variegated form - Glechoma variegata.
Best Wishes --
