Re: More on ground ivy

I attacked an overgrown perennial bed this evening because someone said they
didn't know wood sorrel would grow that tall! LOL!! Anyway, there's lots of
ground ivy (creeping Charlie) and I can't tell whether it has escaped from
the so-called lawn into the bed or from the bed into the lawn. But the clay
is dry here and it is not easy to pull at all. It breaks up and leaves
little sections behind.

At my last residence I worked for 15 years to eradicate the creeping Charlie
from a bed of ivy and a bed of euonymous. Hand-picking it out. I almost had
it all when I moved. But it was several sessions each year and I only did it
when the soil was nice and moist.

Has anyone noticed the pungent smell creeping Charlie gives off? Another
reason to get rid of it. Dean, one section I cleared it from this evening
was where I have a new rugosa rose planted--it had indeed made the carpet
surrounding it that you referred to. I guess beauty is in the eye of the
beholder--I couldn't wait to tear it out. But then Charlie and I have had a
hostile relationship for many many years.
