The few times it has turned up in my garden, I have left it alone, and have
never had a problem with it reseeding. Could be the four inches of cedar
bark mulch though.
If I were going to have it in my garden I would prefer to see it grown
behind some other plant that would hide most of the foliage.
Just this week I drove past a large group of chicory growing in front of a
large group of Hemerocallis fulva. They looked very good together. I would
never have considered blue with a browny orange, which just goes to show
that sometimes we need to be a bit more inventive about our colour
combinations.
For another blue flower that might fit into the garden better than chicory,
try Geranium pratense. It is in bloom now in my garden and will bloom again
at the end of August if I cut it back hard when it finishes.
Oh, and I agree about the Echinops as long as you can keep well meaning
people from pulling it as a weed before it blooms. It goes remarkably well
with pink roses as well.
