Gophers are primarily vegetarians, and eat mostly roots, tubers, and even
whole plants. They're the not-so-mythical beasts that can literally suck an
entire plant into the ground while you watch.
Moles are primarily carnivores. Most of their diet is grubs, insects,m and
earthworms-- things that live in the lawn and dirt. Moles may make the yard
look bad, but don't usually "hurt" plants, although they may tip them a bit,
or their tunnels may damage plants by exposing roots.
Voles..... Now that's one I don't know much about. We have a few wily moles
in our yard. Mostly, we just let them be. By eating grubs and aerating the
first, they can do good for a garden. As long as they stay out of the front
yard we sort of manage to let each other be.
