Lucifer and one of the yellow cultivars ( I think it's Solfaterre) are hardy
to zone 5, and with extra protection, like a good deep mulch-and I mean
about 18 inches worth, can remain in the ground in zone 4. There is a
Canadian garden writer who grows them in the Bruce Penninsula (that bit of
land that juts up into Lake Huron).
