crocosmia lucifer

Yes, speaking of true reds, I just dearly love crocosmia lucifer, but I have
had a hard time keeping them in zone 5b. One year I had one a couple
planted in raised bed that were well drained and we had a mild winter and so
they lived over and were wonderful. The next year was colder and they
disappeared. Another year, I tried one in a border, but I think it rotted
out in heavy rains and humidity in August. This summer, I've put some in as
small bulbs in an area under eaves for dryness, drainage, and cold
protection, but I think it isn't getting enough sun and they are not getting
very big. Anyone have suggestions?
