Re: Tristate Nurseries
Hello Bill Lee,
No big secret about the nurseries. I met the owner of Pine View Nurseries
while we both had booths set up at a Master Gardeners fair a few months ago. I was
there to give a slide presentation and got talked into taking some plants for
sale.. which we normally do not participate in. We traded information and a few
plants while there and promised to visit each other. The location is in
Litchfield, KY on route 259. His partner worked for Bernheim Arboretum and
specialized in Holly. They did have some nice native and non-native shrubs and
trees at what we though were reasonable prices.
In Louisville, KY I always enjoy visiting Wallitch Nurseries on the east side.
Give a presentation there every once in a while at their annual fall festival.
Large, family owned nursery that has been around for many moons. Used to always go
see Joe Kunkle at Akin' Back Nursery, but he quit and went out of business.
Indy Art Museum has a greenhouse with sales. We have sold plants to them for
restoration of the Oldfield Estates and Ravine gardens the past few years and want
to go see where our plants ended up. I know a landscaper in Indy who is from
England. Want to visit her and have her take us around to some of her better
nurseries. We are also visiting Marge Soules and husband who own Soules Garden.
They specialize in Hosta & Daylilies.. neither of which I am really "into". But
they come here each year and we happened to like them as people. probably end up
purchasing a few hosta for an up coming project.
Hostas of Kentuckiana, the Daffodil Society, Louisville Daylily Society,
Louisville Iris and the Bonsi Society are having a combined annual sale in
Louisville on a Saturday morning. Do you go to that one? Kind of like sharks in a
barrel form 10:00 until about 1:00. Then it is all gone.
