RE: Crocosmia

Hi Dee Ann,
Loved your June bug story. We had June bugs in southern California where I
grew up, but we didn't try to fly them. Mostly they got stuck in my hair (I
had hair like little orphan Annie) and I would scream a lot.
Another gorgeous red flowering perennial is Lobelia 'Ruby Slippers'. Dark
green leaves and about 5 ft. to the top of the spikes of incredible ruby
red. Does well in sun to part shade and likes moist, rich soil as do most
Lobelias. Mine are just beginning to open and so beautiful planted with
gold foliage such as Carex 'Bowles Golden', Caryopteris 'Worchester Gold' or
Hypericum 'Summer Gold'. Ahhh yes, late summer combinations are so
satisfying :).

Hello Crocosmia and all red flowering plant lovers
My crocosmia are in full sun (along with everything else) and are red but
with a orange cast. Very pretty and exotic . In a completely different bed
bordering the pool I have RED CANNA and are they beautiful (the Japanese
beetles do love them though) they have been sprayed. Out of the two 25 bulb
packages that I planted all colors except one match. and that one sticks out
like a sore thumb. It is red, but with a pink cast. Drat that Wal-Mart.
How many of you are old enough to have had your childhood before TV and had
to find other entertainment??. We spent most of July 'flying June bugs" we
caught them tied thread to one of their legs and flew them. My grand kids
find this humorous (strange) but have no desire to play this sport.
